New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: At least 11 people have been shot in New Orleans in the US, in which two have been left critically injured on Sunday, ANI reported. 

Initially, the police had said that 10 people were taken to treatment at local medical facilities. Later, one more person walked into a local hospital seeking treatment. There was no further information about their condition.

The shootings took place at around 3 am on a busy commercial block of Canal Street that is close to numerous hotels which is also a popular tourist hub. As of now, no arrests have been made and any motives are unclear.

Video footage from the scene showed numerous police vehicles cordoning off the area as forensic teams made checks. Investigators said someone was "detained near the scene," but their possible involvement in the crime remains a question.

"One suspect had been apprehended near the scene", police said in a Twitter feed.

Speaking to NBC News, Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said police quickly responded to the scene as patrols were heightened for this weekend’s Bayou Classic, the annual Thanksgiving weekend rivalry football game between Grambling State and Southern University that’s played at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

This is the second mass shooting to occur on the weekend of Bayou Classic in recent years.

Earlier on September 1, five people dead were left dead while 21 others were injured in a mass shooting in Texas, US.
