"It is not possible to ascertain from whom the Prince caught the virus owing to the high number of engagements he carried out in his public role during recent weeks," the Clarence House added.
He last met Queen Elizabeth on March 12, before the earliest time he would have got infected by the novel coronavirus.
The deadly coronavirus, which originated in China's Wuhan, has wrecked havoc across the world. In Britain, the deadly COVID-19 virus has claimed the lives of 422 people and affected mor than 8,000.
Amid this, the British government has said that it will open a 4,000-bed field hospital at a London exhibition centre as part of its plans to treat coronavirus cases.
The move comes a day after Prime Minister Boris Johnson ordered the country into lockdown to tackle the spread of the outbreak.
In his televised address on Monday, Johnson called for people to "stay at home" to prevent close-contact transmission of the virus and ease pressure on the state-run National Health Service.
Non-essential shops and services were told to shut, with unprecedented peacetime restrictions on movement, including a ban on gatherings of more than two people.
