Pakistan restores Hafiz Saeed's bank accounts after approval from UNSC Sanctions Committee: Report
Pakistan's double standard on terrorism were once again exposed after the country restored the bank accounts of five terrorists, including 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed. According to local media reports, the Government of Pakistan has restored the bank accounts of top five leaders of now defunct Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JUD) and Lashkar -e-Taiba (LeT), including Hafiz Saeed.
According to reports, the bank accounts of terrorists were restored after taking a formal approval from the Sanctions Committee of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The UNSC, however, has not confirmed whether it gave its approval to restore the bank accounts of the Saeed and four other terrorists.
Abdul Salam Bhuttavi, Haji M Ashraf , Yahya Mujahid and Zafar Iqbal are the other UN designated terrorists whose accounts were freed by the Imran Khan-led Pakistan government. All of them are UNSC’s designated terrorists and lodged in jail for terror financing cases.
Restoration of their bank account means they would once again be able to indulge in terror financing activities. Media reports said that they had appealed the UNSC to allow restoration of their accounts so that they could support their families.
"Initially we did not want to file an appeal but we were advised to file it as it was difficult for our leaders to run their affairs. Not only this it would have also raise questions how our leaders are running their families so we approached the authorities as it was in our favor whatever facility we have got in terms of restoration of our bank accounts is legal and with the approval of United Nations" a Pakistani news website quoted a leader of JuD as saying.
