Karachi | Jagran News Desk: At least five people were killed and four militants were gunned down after a group of terrorists attacked the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) building in Karachi on Monday, reported news agency PTI. The militants attacked the building with grenades, killing four security guards and a police officer, said the officials while adding that the situation is under control now.

Officials, quoted by news agency Reuters, said that four militants attacked the Stock Exchange building with grenades and guns. "Four attackers have been killed, they had come in a silver Corolla car," Karachi police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon told Reuters.

Meanwhile, Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility of the deadly attack, saying its Majeed Brigade, consisting of a suicide attacker, carried out the attack, reports IANS. However, there has be no official confirmation on it yet.

According to initial reports, the militants attacked attacked the main gate of the building and opened fire at the people present there. The militants also hurled grenades in which three people, including a police officer and the security guard stationed outside the Pakistan Stock Exchange building, were injured.

The security forces have recovered AK-47 rifles, hand grenades, magazines and other explosive material, said the officials while adding that four security guards and a police sub-inspector were killed in the attack.

"An unfortunate incident took place at the Pakistan Stock Exchange. They made their way from our parking area and opened fire on everyone," Director of the PSX Abid Ali Habib was quoted as saying by news agency IANS.

Meanwhile, Sindh province Governor Imran Ismail condemned the attack at the Pakistan Stock Exchange building and said that the security forces and officials are the trying to rescue the people. 

"Strongly condemn the attack on PSX aimed at tarnishing our relentless war on terror. Have instructed the IG and security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are caught alive and their handlers are accorded exemplary punishments. We shall protect Sindh at all costs," he tweeted.

The Pakistan Stock Exchange is located at the heart of Karachi's business centre. Important buildings like that of the State Bank of Pakistan are also located near the building.
