'Frustrated with the system', armed man takes 20 people hostage in Ukraine
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: An armed man has taken at least 20 people hostage in northwestern Ukraine, local police said on Tuesday. The Ukrainian police said that they have cordoned off the center of Lutsk city where the man is holding people hostage in a bus. The assailant, the police said, is armed and carrying explosives.
According to local media reports, gunshots were also heard at the scene. However, it was not immediately clear whether they were fired by police or the assailant and if there has been any injury to hostages.
The police have identified the man and said that he had expressed frustration with "Ukraine's system''. They said that efforts were on to establish contact with the man.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy also confirmed gunshots were heard and said that the bus was damaged. In a statement posted on Facebook, Zelenskiy said that the assailant took control of the bus at 9:25 am (local time) and that efforts were on to resolve the situation without casualties.
They have already identified him and said that he expressed frustration with "Ukraine's system'' on his social media pages.Ukrainian media reported that gunshots could be heard at the scene. It wasn't immediately clear whether anyone has been injured.
