New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: At least nine people were killed on Wednesday as gunmen opened fire in two shooting incidents in Germany city near Frankfurt and special forces were chasing the gunman who fled in a car, police told Reuters on Thursday. Heavy armed police sealed off two streets in the city of Hanau and ambulances have rushed to the crime scene.

A police helicopter hovered over the city situated east of the financial hub Frankfurt.

Local media said that the gunman opened fire at two Shishu bars in Hanau. The cops set up a hotline for members of the public with information that could lead to the perpetrators.

According to the news agency AFP, the first attack occurred at the "Midnight" bar in the centre of the city around 10 pm. The attacker, or attackers, fled the scene via a dark-coloured car.

Police raised the death toll to nine after one person succumbed to injuries.

A suspect in two shootings in Germany that killed at least eight people was found dead at home, police told Reuters. Mass-selling Bild newspaper said the man was a German citizen and that ammunition and gun magazines were found in his car. He had a firearms hunting licence, it added.

"The likely perpetrator was found dead at his home in Hanau. The police special intervention forces have also discovered another body there. The investigation is ongoing. Currently there is no indication there are other perpetrators," police said on Twitter.

The main motive of the shooting remains unclear.

Germany has been targeted in recent years by several extremist attacks, one of which killed 12 people in the heart of Berlin in December 2016.
