Donald Trump targets China again, says 'Beijing must be held fully accountable for spread of coronavirus'
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: US President Donald Trump comes out all guns blazing and again targetted and accused China for deliberately spreading the coronavirus, which has infected millions and claimed thousands of lives worldwide. On Saturday, on America's 244th Independence Day, addressing the media from the White House, President Trump called China fully accountable for the spread of the virus.
In his speech, Trump said China's secrecy, deceptions, and cover-ups allowed it to spread all over the world.
He added that the United States was doing great before the Chinese virus, and now the US is producing medical essentials like gowns, masks and surgical equipments, which were earlier made in foreign, mostly in China, from where this virus started.
"The power of tariffs being imposed on foreign lands that took advantage of the United States for decades enabled us to make great trade deals where there were none. Tens of billions of dollars are now paid to the US treasury by the same countries but then we got hit by the virus that came from China," Trump said.
Replying to a question related to the coronavirus vaccine, Trump said the US is testing on vaccines, treatments and therapeutics. He also thanked scientists, medical staff and researchers who are at the forefront in the battle against the virus. He said doctors' historic effort to rapidly develop and deliver life-saving treatments and ultimately a vaccine.
"We are unleashing our nation's scientific brilliance and we will likely have a therapeutic and vaccines solution long before the end of the year."
Trump informed that the country has tested almost 40 million people and, hence, the country is showing "results that no other country is showing because no other country is testing like we have...we have the finest testing facilities.
