'Have rum and half boiled eggs': Karnataka Congress leader's bizarre theory to beat coronavirus leaves netizens in split
Bengaluru | Jagran News Desk: The novel coronavirus has been surging at an alarming rate in India. The dreadful infection, which was first reported in China’s Wuhan, has affected over 10 lakh and claimed the lives of more than 26,000 in India so far.
The world’s only hope to defeat the pandemic on remains on the discovery of a vaccine. However, scientists and researchers across the world have failed to discover a potential vaccine for the highly contagious infection.
Amid this several people have come up with their own theories on how the deadly infection can be defeated. Recently, a Congress leader in Karnataka claimed that the novel coronavirus can be defeated with “rum and boiled eggs”.
In a video that was shared by a journalist, Congress Councilor from Ullal CMC Ravichandra Gatti has asked people to drink rum, eat half boiled egg omelettes, both sprinkled with pepper powder, to defeat the deadly pathogen.

Gatti, who is known to be a social worker for nearly 15 years, said he had tried many medicines for the novel coronavirus but vouched that only rum and eggs worked.
“I am not suggesting this as a politician, but as a member of the corona committee. Many people are there in Bengaluru and Madikeri who drink rum but I do not drink or eat fish,” the Congress Councilor can be heard in the video, reported news agency IANS.

Gatti’s bizarre remark has left netizens in splits. People have also slammed the Congress Councillor, calling him a “covidiot”.

Meanwhile, Congress has refused to comment over Gatti’s remark.
Meanwhile, Karnataka is emerging as a new coronavirus hotspot in India. According to the latest information available at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the deadly pathogen has affected over 55,000 and claimed the lives of more than 1,100 in Karnataka so far.
