New Delhi | Jagran Technology Desk: Facebook-owned WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new search feature which will be vastly different from the one which is currently available on the popular messenger app. The app will soon have a ‘search by date’ feature which, as the name suggests will allow the users to search for the messages (be it texts, audios, images et cetera) using the filter of date.

According to a report in WABetaInfo, the feature is currently in an initial alpha phase of testing, meaning it will take a couple of months to get released for the general public.

The feature will reportedly involve, a calendar icon at the extreme right of keypad, which will enable a user to ‘search by date’, enabling a substantial enhancement of the usable synchrony of the messenger-app. The WABetaInfo reports also contain screenshots of how the feature might look for the iOS users.

WhatsApp already supports a universal in-chat search feature, but it gets a bit complicated if a user wants to search a message on the basis of the date the specific message was sent or received. However, with this upcoming ‘search by date’ feature, the complication in searching the message by date will be rectified. The new feature appears to be designed for in-chat searches and not for the universal search option that you can access by pulling down the chats list.

As of now, the currently available search feature on Whatsapp enables the discovery of the messages on the basis of the specific keywords, which one may or may not remember at all times.

Further, to improve the storage cleansing of the messenger app, the specific classification of the files as received (forwarded or otherwise) will also be reportedly introduced in the upcoming updates of the popular messenger app.
