China warns India of 'reverse sanctions' if it blocks Huawei from doing business
New Delhi | Jagran Tech Desk: China has warned India not to block its Huawei technologies in the country saying it could lead to serious consequences for Indian firms operating in China, as per reports.
India will be holding trials for installing a 5G cellular networks in the upcoming months but it is yet to take a call on using Chinese equipment, telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has said.
Huawei was backlisted from the US administration in May citing security concerns after it accused it of stealing data and personal information. The US has asked its allies not to use the company's equipment.
As per reports, India's ambassador in Beijing, Vikram Misri, was called to the Chinese foreign ministry last month to hear's its concern about the US campaign to keep Huawei out of 5G services.
China even said there could be a reverse sanction on India they block Huawei because of pressure from Washington. It said Beijing hoped India would make an independent decision on 5G bidders.
"Huawei has carried out operations in India for a long time, and has made contributions to the development of Indian society and the economy that is clear to all," spokeswoman Hua Chunying said in a statement.
"On the issue of Chinese enterprises participating in the construction of India's 5G, we hope the Indian side makes an independent and objective decision, and provides a fair, just and non-discriminatory commercial environment for Chinese enterprises' investment and operations, to realize mutual benefit."
Ministry of External Affairs did not respond to a request for comment. Meanwhile, US congressman Jim Back has said that China is blackmailing India, "China is now blackmailing India into using Huawei for its 5G infrastructure - they know no bounds!"
