New Delhi | Jagran Sports Desk: Last season champions Bengaluru bulls defeated three times champions Patna Pirates 40-39 in a nail-biting finish at Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

The three-times champion Patna Pirates had an upper hand in the match with 29-20 lead at one stage, but Bengaluru Bulls didn't bow down without a fight with the support of the home crowd. In the next few minutes, they made it a three-point game. With three minutes and half minutes remaining Patna Pirates lead 37-33.

Raider Pardeep Narwal scored a super 10 and ended with 14 points, but couldn't reduce the one-point deficit. Pawan Kumar Shehrawat scored maximum 14 raids with 17 points for Bengaluru Bulls and proved to be the difference in the match. Rohit Kumar scored 7 raid points while Mahendra Singh scored 5 with 4 tackle points. For Patna Pirates, Mohammad Esmaeil scored six raid points.

With the win, Bengaluru Bulls are now placed in the top two of the points table while Patna Pirates with just three wins in 12 matches dropped to the bottom of the points table. The latter will next play UP Yoddhas while confident Bengaluru Bulls will feature against Telugu Titans on Friday.

In today's match, U Mumba will play second last-placed side Puneri Paltan. The match will kick-off at 7.30 pm and telecast on Hotstar and Star Sports channel.
