New Delhi | Jagran Sports Desk: Roger Federer on Wednesday crashed out of the US Open after losing to Grigor Dmitrov in an intense five-set battle. The Bulgarian beat Federer 3-6, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 and 6-2 to secure semi-final birth.

Federer got off to a good start winning the opening set and made a comeback by winning the third set but lost the match.

After the victory, Dimitrov said that he was a 'little nervous' in the first set.

"It's been a while since I played on that court, so in the first set I was a little nervous and I was just trying to find my rhythm around the court," Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) quoted Dimitrov as saying.

"He was serving really good, as he did throughout the whole match. The only thing I was telling myself was to stay in the match. I knew physically I was feeling really, really good," he added.

In semi-finals, Dimitrov will face the winner of Matteo Berrettini and Gael Monfils' clash.

Meanwhile, In the Women's singles event, Serena Williams China's Wang Qiang in straight sets. She defeated her by 6-1, 6-0 to register her 100th US open victory and qualify for the semi-final stage.

The eighth seed was her at her devastating best and dominated Qiang throughout the match.

After the victory, Williams said that this is what she was training for.

"It feels good. It feels like, okay, this is what I've been training for. This is how hard I've been working. It feels like, you know, hard work pays off when that happens," Women's Tennis Association (WTA) quoted Williams as saying.

In the semi-finals, Williams will compete against Elina Svitolina of Ukraine on September 6.
