New Delhi | Jagran Sports Desk: A day after Brighton Hove Albion stunned Tottenham Hostpur by defeating them 3-0, top sides Manchester City and Manchester United registered losses to lower placed sides Newcastle and Wolverhampton. In the first match, the red devils were stunned by Newcastle at their home ground as the hosts won the match 1-0. 19-year-old Mathew Longstaff 72' scored the only goal of the match.
The loss has put Manchester United to 12th position and just 2 points clear of avoiding a relegation battle.
Champions Manchester City, on the other hand, lost 0-2 to Wolverhampton at home. Adama Torres struck twice to help his side climb to 11th position in the premier league table. A second defeat kept City eight points behind Liverpool.
There is an intense pressure mounting on Manchester United coach to perform well in upcoming matches. Ole Gunner Solksjaer had joined the red devils after Jose Mourinho was sacked. He provided stability to the side, but has failed to get the best out of his players, especially in the absence of striker Romelu Lukaku who moved to Inter Milan.
It seems like the Norwegian might be replaced by another coach before the end of this season. He was slammed by fans for showing his praise over 0-0 draw versus AZ Alkmaar in the Europa league last week.
In other matches, Frank Lampard's men Chelsea defeated Southampton 4-1. Tammy Abraham (17'), Mason (24'), N'Golo Kante (40') and Michy Batschuayi (89') scored goals for the men in blue while Danny Inngs (30') struck the only goal for Saints.
Chelsea rises to fifth with points while Southampton slipped to 17th place after consecutive defeats.
Arsenal defeated AFC Bournemouth 1-0 at Emirates Stadium as David Luiz scored lone goal of the match. They are unbeaten in five premier league matches and move to third on 15 points. AFC Bournemouth dropped to 10th place with 11 points.
