Premier League 2019-20: Liverpool thrash Norwich 4-1 in opener
New Delhi | Jagran Sports Desk: Liverpool on Friday defeated Norwich 4-1 at Anfield to kick off their premier league 2018-19 season in style.
An own goal from Norwich captain Grant Hanley in the seventh minute set the tone for the hosts. Mohammad Salah goal in the 19th minute doubled the lead for the hosts. Later, Virgil Van Dijk (28') and Divock Origi (42') goals made it 4-0 for Liverpool at half time.
Teemu Pukki (64') scored a consolation goal for the visitors in the second half.
The UEFA champions league champions, Liverpool is aiming to win the premier league title after 30 years after missing out to Manchester City for just one point in the previous season.
Jurgen Klopp's men who won their sixth UEFA Champions title in the last season is once again hailed as the tournament's favorites for the premier league title.
Alisson Becker pulled off a calf problem during the match and newly signed Adrian came on to make his debut just days after joining Liverpool. Meanwhile, substitute Onel Hernandez became the first Cuban to play in the Premier League.
Divok Origi who was the main star of the semi-final against Barcelona and final against Tottenham of the UEFA Champions League win kept his place in the side and completed his 100th premier league appearance as Sadio Mane was left on the bench.
Mane was in action at the AFCON ahead of this match. He helped 'Senegal' reach the final of the tournament.
