New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: While Indian female athletes have received their long due recognition over the years, people are yet to know about their struggle and dedication that took them to new heights.

Aiming this, Twitter India has been running a series -- #HerSportsStory -- to celebrate the women who have made the nation proud with the contribution in different sports.

As a part of the series, India’s eminent weightlifter Karnam Malleswari shared #HerSportsStory with Dainik Jagran’s Anubha Bhosle today.

Karnam Malleswari is the first Indian woman to ever win an Olympic medal -- a feat she achieved at the Sydney 2000 Olympics. She received the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in 1995 and the Padma Shri in 1999. In 1994, she won gold at the World Weightlifting Championships in Istanbul.
