FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup to be played between February 17 and March 7 in India next year
New Delhi | Jagran Sports Desk: The FIFA Under 17 Women's World Cup will be played to played between February 17, 2021 to March 7, 2021, reported news agency ANI. India is the host country for the tournament.
"Following today's announcement by FIFA, the AIFF and LOC are pleased with the confirmation of the new dates for FUFA U-17 Women's World Cup India 2020, which will now be held between 17 February and 7 March 2021. The dates were confirmed after taking into account the time needed to complete the UEFA, CONCACAF, CAF, OFC and CONMEBOL qualification tournaments as well as the best possible conditions in the country to host a successful FIFAU-17 Women's World Cup," read an official statement.
"We are now looking ahead and hoping to host a wonderful tournament that will give women's football in India, the perfect platform to grow and develop," it added.
The AIFF informed that all the host cities have put in a lot of effort and commitment and they are happy to share the new dates.
"It will allow them to make up for lost time and provide momentum going forward, it added further.
The tournament was originally scheduled to be held from November 2 to 21 this year but was postponed last month due to the coronavirus outbreak
Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju has assured full cooperation and support to the tournament.
"I assure full cooperation and support to make it a grand success," he tweeted.
The event will be competed among 16 teams across five venues.
FIFA has also confirmed the Futsal World Cup, originally scheduled for September-October this year in Lithuania, was pushed to Sept. 12-Oct. 3, 2021.
Meanwhile, the 70th FIFA Congress, which was originally due to take place in Addis Ababa, will be held as an online event on Sept. 18.
