New Delhi | Jagran Sports Desk: Star striker Cristiano Ronaldo scored four goals to help Euro 2016 champions Portugal thrash Lithuania 5-1 in Euro 2020 Group B qualification match. He opened his account during the seventh minute with a penalty after Joao Felix had been fouled.

Vyatautas Andriuskevicius scored 28th minute goal to level 1-1 for the hosts.

Portugal raised their game in the second half, with 34-year-old Ronaldo bagging three more goals with Bernardo Silva laying on two assists. Midfielder William Carvalho's close range shot completed the 5-1 rout in stoppage time.

It was an eighth hat-trick for the 34-year-old. Earlier, he had scored four goals against Andorra in 2016.
The former Real Madrid striker Ronaldo has now scored 93 international goals. He is just 16 goals behind Iranian Ali Daei who holds 109 goals (world record).

It was Portugal's second consecutive qualifying victory after they had beaten Serbia 4-2 on Saturday. These wins have vaulted them to second place in the Group B standings, five points behind leaders Ukraine with one game in hand. Portugal's next match is at home against Luxembourg on October 11.

Ronaldo was an integral part of Portugal who won the Euro 2016 title. The tense final had forced him to leave the ground after 34th minute in the remarkable final match, but his side had won 1-0 against France. He helped his side to UEFA Nations glory earlier this year. His club Juventus has also ended on top of the Italian Series A.

Meanwhile, Serbia moved up into third place in the group with a 3-1 win at Luxembourg, with Aleksandar Mitrovic scoring twice.
