New Delhi | Jagran Sports Desk: Indian sportsperson Babita Phogat tied knot with wrestler Vivek Suhag on Sunday. The couple got married as per traditional Hindu rituals.  The wedding took place at Dadri district's Balali village in a simple manner as it was only attended by close families and friends.

Her sister and famous sportswoman Geeta Phogat was the first to congratulate Babita on her wedding. In a tweet post, she shared a picture of the couple, including her husband and captioned, "My lovely sister @BabitaPhogat Congratulations on your marriage. I hope that all of your dreams come true as you begin this new journey. Many many congratulations to both of you @SuhagVivek @BabitaPhogat," with lovely emojis.

A reception ceremony will be held in Delhi on Monday in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other Union ministers including Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khatter and wrestlers from across the globe are likely to be present.

The couple became friends after they met at an event in Hotel Taj, Delhi, five years ago. The groom hails from West Delhi's Najafgarh. The duo had reportedly told their parents about their future plans on June 2 at which both the families agreed.

Sending out a message, the couple took oath of 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' by taking an extra phera (overall eight) and planted saplings.

To inform, Babita Phogat is a wrestler who won the gold medal in 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games. Her sister Geeta Phogat is also a wrestler (freestyle) who won India's first-ever Gold medal at Commonwealth games in 2010. She is also married to a wrestler Pawan Kumar.

She had recently contested from Dadri constituency in the Haryana State Assembly elections. However, she lost to independent candidate Sombir Sangwan. Phogat had failed to receive even 20 per cent votes at the BJP bastion.
