PM Modi announces setting up of trust for construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday announced in the Parliament that a trust has been formed for the construction of a Ram Temple in Ayodhya as directed by the Supreme Court in its landmark verdict in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case last November.
Just before the Question Hour began, he said the trust has been named as the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Shetra.
He said the Uttar Pradesh government has agreed to give five acres of land to the Sunni Wakf Board as directed by the Supreme Court in Ayodhya matter.
"My government has decided to set up a trust called Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Skshetra, which will take decisions independently on the construction of a Ram temple and related issues," PM Modi said in the Lok Sabha.
A 5-judge bench, headed by the then Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, in a unanimous verdict on November 9 decreed the entire 2.77 acre disputed land in favour of deity 'Ram Lalla' and also directed the Centre to allot a 5-acre plot to Sunni Waqf Board for building a mosque in Ayodhya.
The top court had also directed the Centre to formulate a scheme with necessary provisions for the setting up of a trust with a board of trustees or any other appropriate body, the functioning of the trust, the powers of the trustees, transfer of land to the trust and all necessary, incidental and supplemental matters.
The apex court had said a trust should be formed within three months for the construction of the temple at the site where many Hindus believe Lord Ram was born.
The announcement, two days before Delhi votes in assembly elections followed by a communally charged campaign amid anti-CAA unrest, is likely to ruffle opposition feathers.
