IAS-turned-politician Shah Faesal stopped from leaving India, detained under PSA in Kashmir
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: Jammu and Kashmir politician Shah Faesal has been put under house arrest. The IAS-turned-politician was detained while he was about to fly abroad from Delhi.
Faesal is an IAS topper and he had quit the service to join politics. He has been critical about the government’s decision to revoke Article 370 which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
Faesal in a tweet on Tuesday said that Kashmir "needed a non-violent political mass movement for restoration of political rights".
"Kashmir will need a long, sustained, non-violent political mass movement for restoration of the political rights. The abolition of Article 370 has finished the mainstream. Constitutionalists are gone. So you can either be a stooge or a separatist now. No shades of grey," he tweeted.
Faesal quit IAS in January to protest against "unabated killings" in Kashmir and the "marginalisation of Indian Muslims".
"As of now, I do not have any plans to join any existing mainstream political party. I plan to go to the field, listen to the ground, to the youngsters and important stakeholders and then take a decision," he said.
"I am deeply inspired by Imran Khan and Arvind Kejriwal. But, we know we are operating in a conflict zone and it is not very easy for us to work in that space, a space that has lost legitimacy in the last few years," he had said.
"I wish if the youngsters of the state give me that kind of opportunity, I will be happy to do a retake of Imran Khan and Kejriwal," Faesal added.
