New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: In a surprise move, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday backed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that he has full faith on the central government that it will take concrete steps to deal with the economic slowdown.

“I have full faith that in the coming times, the Centre will take concrete steps on it (economic slowdown). This is one situation where the country has to stand as one and repair the economy,” said Kejriwal.

“Whatever steps the Centre will take to repair the economy, the Delhi government will give them full support. I am personally worried about the job losses,” Kejriwal said.

He also said that Delhi government will give full support to the Centre but he is worried about the job loss problem especially for auto sector and textile sector.

“It is a matter of grave concern, especially for auto sector, textile, real estate and others where we are seeing that the slowdown is becoming deeper,” he said.

This comes after some Congress leaders -- Shashi Tharoor, Abhishek Singhvi, Jairam Ramesh -- backed the government and said that 'demonising' PM Modi is wrong and he should be praised whenever he says or does the right thing.

Speaking at a book launch on Wednesday, former Union minister Ramesh had said Modi's governance model was “not a complete negative story”, adding that not recognising his work and demonising him all the time was not going to help.

“If you are going to demonise him (PM Modi) all the time, you are not going to be able to confront him,” said Ramesh.

Abhishek Singhvi and Shashi Tharoor also supported Jairam Ramesh and said that he is the Prime Minister of the country and demonising him is wrong.

“As you know, I have argued for six years now that Narendra Modi should be praised whenever he says or does the right thing, which would add credibility to our criticisms whenever he errs. I welcome others in opposition coming around to a view for which I was excoriated at the time!” said Tharoor.
