New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday removed Manoj Tiwari from the post of the Delhi BJP President.Tiwari, the MP from north-east Delhi, was replaced by Adesh Kumar Gupta , who was the former Mayor of North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), with immediate effects.

The change in the leadership came on the orders of BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda. "BJP national President JP Nadda has appointed Adesh Kumar Gupta as the Delhi unit President of BJP," read a letter by party's National General Secretary Arun Singh.

Manoj Tiwari was appointed as Delhi BJP President in 2016 replacing Satish Upadhyay. Soon after the news about his replacement broke out, the actor-turned politician, Manoj Tiwari thanked all the people who supported him during his stint. Tiwari also congratulated Adesh Kumar Gupta for his appointment as the Delhi BJP chief and wished him good luck.

"I am thankful to all the activists, officials and residents of Delhi for the love and support received during my 3.6-year-long tenure as Delhi BJP chief. Please forgive me for any inadvertent mistakes I might have made," Manoj Tiwari wrote on Twitter and congratulated Adesh Kumar Gupta for his new appointment. Tiwari had offered to quit after the BJP lost to the Aam Aadmi Party in the Delhi assembly polls and his term was also over.

In another shuffle, the BJP also appointed Vishnu Deo Sai and S Tikendra Singh as State Party Presidents of Chhattisgarh and Manipur respectively. Sai was a Union minister in the first Modi government but could not contest the 2019 Lok Sabha polls after the BJP decided to not repeat any of its sitting MPs in Chhattisgarh after losing to the Congress in the assembly polls. He replaces Vikram Usendi.

These are the first important organisational appointments in the BJP after the coronavirus outbreak curbed political activities and the party primarily focussed on steering relief work for people affected by the lockdown. The development signals, to some extent, a return of regular political activities as lockdown restrictions across the country are relaxed.
