The government on Friday announced that a 'limited' lockdown, including suspension of inter-state travel, air and train services, will continue to remain in force for another two weeks throughout the country from May 4 but some activities would be allowed after classifying areas into Red, Orange and Green zones.
As per the government notification, movement of individuals and vehicles, only for permitted activities in Red Zones. The government has said that private offices can operate with up to 33 per cent strength as per requirement, with the remaining persons working from home.
“All standalone (single) shops, neighbourhood (colony) shops and shops in residential complexes are permitted to remain open in urban areas, without any distinction of essential and non-essential,” the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had said in a statement on Friday.
"The Standard Operating Protocols (SOPs) issued by MHA will continue to operate such as transit arrangement for foreign national(s) in India; release of quarantine persons; movement of stranded labour within states/ UTs; sign-on and sign-off of Indian seafarers, movement of stranded migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and other persons by road and rail," the government had said.
Meanwhile, the government on Friday said that cinema halls, shopping malls, gymnasiums, sports complexes, swimming pools, entertainment parks, theatres, bars and auditoriums, assembly halls and similar places will remain prohibited across the country amid the surging coronavirus cases.
As per government, districts under this zone, popularly known as 'Hot Spots' will be based on number of active cases, doubling rate of confirmed cases and extent of testing and surveillance feedback. The Red Zone areas will be the ones witnessing most stringent restrictions during the extended lockdown in order to break the chain of transmission of the deadly virus.
"In the Orange Zones, in addition to activities permitted in Red Zone, taxis and cab aggregators will be permitted with one driver and two passengers only. Inter-district movement of individuals and vehicles will be allowed for permitted activities only. Four wheeler vehicles will have a maximum of two passengers besides the driver and pillion riding will be allowed on two-wheelers," a government said.
Meanwhile, the government has said that a limited number of activities will remain prohibited across the country, irrespective of the zone, including travel by air, rail, metro and inter-state movement by road, running of schools, colleges, and educational and training/coaching institutions.
"In the Green Zones, all activities are permitted except the limited number of activities which are prohibited throughout the country irrespective of the zone. However, buses can operate with up to 50 per cent seating capacity and bus depots can operate with up to 50 per cent capacity," the government has said.
As per the government, districts with zero confirmed case or with no confirmed case in the last 21 days are Green Zones. The government has said that movement of individuals in all zones, for non-essential activities, will remain prohibited between 7 am to 7 pm.
