New Delhi | Jagran Tech Desk: Facebook-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp has stopped working on windows smartphone from December 31, 2019. "You'll no longer be able to use all Windows Phone operating systems after December 31, 2019," it said. From February 1, 2020, the instant messaging app will also no longer run in many outdated Android smartphones and iOS-based devices. WhatsApp has given this information on its Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page. As per the page, the instant messaging app will no longer be accessible on Android and iOS platforms.

It says the Android version 2.3.6 will no longer support instant messaging service on smartphones with Gingerbread and iOS 8 or lower operating systems. On smartphones with these operating systems, users will neither be able to install the app nor create a new account. If you are also using the instant messaging service on the smartphone that comes with these operating systems, you have to upgrade to the new operating system Android version 4.0.3 or above. Only then you can continue to use the service.

At the same time, if you are Jio Phone or Jio Phone 2 user, then you need to upgrade your phone with the latest version 2.5.1 of your KaiOS. WhatsApp will not work in the lower version operating system. Up-gradation is a part of safety and security for its users. Last year, the WhatsApp account of several users was hacked. Security patches are no longer an issue for these older operating systems, and the risk of the account getting hacked has also become negligible. This is the reason why this instant messaging app will no longer work in older operating systems.

Meanwhile, iPhones running on iOS 8 and older will also stop being able to create new accounts or reverify existing accounts from February 1.

Earlier, WhatsApp had discontinued its services for BlackBerry OS, Nokia Symbian S60, and BlackBerry 10, Nokia S40, among others.
