New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: For the third consecutive day, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took to the streets of Kolkata protesting against the vexed Citizenship Act and National Register of Citizens (NRC), which have created massive uproar across the country with violence reported in Delhi and several parts of Uttar Pradesh.
While attacking the central government over the decision to implement the NRC and CAA across the nation, Mamata Banerjee questioned that if the saffron party was a ‘washing machine’, who only can approve the citizenship of an Indian. Mamata Banerjee also termed the NRC and CAA s ‘two sides of the same lollipop’ and spurned to implement the contentious citizenship act and NRC in her state.
"You say no one will lose citizenship. But now you say no pan, no Aadhar, nothing will work... Then what will work? An amulet from the BJP? The BJP has become a washing machine," she said.
She also attacked the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who piloted the Citizenship Act in Parliament, and reminded him that his duty is to maintain peace in the country and said, “You (Amit Shah) are Home Minister of the country not only a BJP leader, please maintain peace in the country”.
She also challenged Shah to withdraw the NRC and CAA as she will not let it implement the contentious laws in her state. “You have not done 'sabka saath, sabka vikas' but 'sabke saath sarvanash'. Withdraw CAA & NRC, or else I will see how you implement it here”, she added.
Mamata Banerjee also said, "I urge Union Home Minister Amit Shah to ensure that the country does not burn over amended citizenship law." Speaking on the protests against Citizenship Law, Mamata said, "Amit Shah's job is to douse the fire not to ignite it."
The TMC chief along with her party members including MP Nusrat Jahan and Mimi Chakraborty, began her protest march from Howrah Maidan which will conclude at Dorina Crossing at Esplanade in Kolkata.
