New Delhi | Jagran Lifestyle Desk: Chaitra Navratri is an auspicious festival dedicated to Goddess Durga. Nine forms of the goddess are worshipped during the nine-day-long festival. On Day 7, the seventh form of Goddess Durga 'Kalaratri' is worshipped. The goddess is believed to be the destroyer evil spirits, ghosts, demons and negative energies. Also known as Shubankari, Kalaratri is depicted as someone with four arms and born to kill Asuras. She is worshipped to increase courage and become fearless.

As we all are unable to gather at popular temples to worship the goddess amid nationwide lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus, devotees can still watch live aarti from home. The auspicious timing for aarti on the seventh day of Navratri is between 3 am to 6.49 am on April 1.

Goddess Kalartri has a dark completion and rides on a donkey. She has four arms and holds a skewer and iron fork in left and right hands. The other two hands are in Varada and Abhaya Mudra respectively. The goddess wears a garland around her neck. Goddess Durga took the form of Goddess Kalartari to kill Asuras-- evil.

Puja Vidhi

Take bath early in the morning and wear a washed cloth

Place God Kalratri in the puja room.

Offer incense sticks, flower, jaggery to the goddess.

Take a kalash and put some akshat in it, cover it with mango leaves and coconut.

Light a lamp in the puja room

Chant specific mantras dedicated to Goddess Kalartari:

Vama padolla sallohalata kaṇṭaka bhuṣaṇa |

Vardhana murdha dhvaja kr̥ṣṇa kalaratri bharyaṅkari ||

Markandeya Purana:

prakrtistvamca sarvasya guṇatraya vibhavini

kaḷaratrirmaharatrirmoharqtrisca daruṇa

Once you complete puja and aarti, share prasad with everyone.
