The 234-member Tamil Nadu assembly will go to polls on April 6, 2021, while the results will be announced on May 2. The 2021 Tamil Nadu polls will be the first elections to be held in the southern state after the deaths of political stalwarts Jayaram Jayalalithaa and M Karunanidhi. Like always, the Tamil Nadu polls will see a direct contest between the AIADMK-BJP alliance and the DMK-Congress coalition with several regional parties in the fray.
Ahead of the polls, V K Sasikala, former AIADMK chief who was recently released from Tihar Jail, has quit politics and public life but said that she would continue to remain loyal to the sentiments of Jayalalithaa. Sasikala, who was charged with hatching a criminal conspiracy, was seen as a political successor of Jayalalithaa and had also tried to reclaim the top position of the AIADMK.
