New Delhi | Jagran Education Desk: Several competitive exams like JEE Main, advanced, NEET UG 2020 and UGC-NET are likely to be delayed for the second time and likely to push the admission for the undergraduate and postgraduate admission beyond July-August 2020 (only if the lockdown is lifted in May), said a report by the Times of India.
This comes after a number of state governments like Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab and Telangana extended their lockdown period by two weeks and may more states likely to follow suit.
The outbreak has already forced more than 30 school education boards to delay their remaining board exam papers or postpone their evaluation process due to the lockdown. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Indian School Certificate Exam (ICSE) and National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) had to postpone their Class 10 and 12 exams are likely to take a call on April 15, after complete of 21-day lockdown.
Since some states have already announced an extension of the lockdown period, sources say that boards will continue to wait till the lockdown is lifted.
Speaking to the Times of India, an MHRD source said that Now the examinations will have to be further postponed."
Earlier in April, CBSE had said that it has decided to cut down the number of examinations for 29 of 41 pending subjects.
During the ongoing situation, the board may even have to rethink about its decision to conduct exams of the above subjects.
According to the source, the board is left with three options-- first is to conduct the exam and evaluation after lockdown which will delay the declaration of results. Secondly, conduct exam and evaluation during lockdown if allowed during lockdown to declare the results by June 2020. The third or last option is to start the evaluation of exams that have been already conducted and cancel all the remaining exams.
A senior government source said that MHRD is likely to request state governments to advance their summer break and reopen as soon as possible. During the lockdown period, institutions will be asked to conduct online classes and practical part will take place later.
