New Delhi | Jagran Education Desk: Amid coronavirus lockdown, lakhs of primary and secondary students will be promoted to the higher classes without the need of appearing in the annual examination. But, Allahabad University has come up with the decision that its college students may have to appear in the final exams in order to earn their promotions.
Speaking to the Times of India, the AU's controller of examinations, Prof RK Singh said, "I don't see any rationale in promoting all the students of AU and its constituent colleges without exams, although there has been a delay in completing the examination process I am sure after the lockdown, AU teachers will finish the entire exercise in around a fortnight, which usually takes over a month."
Meanwhile, the president of AUTA Prof Sevak Dubey has demanded authorities to promote all the students to next semester/ higher class without exams amid lockdown.
Prof Singh said that fresh dates would soon be announced soon after things gets back to normal. Teachers will complete the evaluation work within a fortnight for quick declaration of result.
He added that classes are going on via various online methods but some students are unable to attend because of poor connectivity. Special classes will be organised so that no students will be at any disadvantage. Only then semesters exams of various courses will take place.
Allahabad University has semester system for all professional and post-graduate courses.
Speaking about the issue, former student union president of AU Rohit Mishra said that the students are capable of meeting the challenge and the varsity should expedite the process once things get normal, as quoted by the Times of India.
After Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the extension of lockdown by another 19 days to contain the spread of coronavirus, the administration will have to wait till the second phase of the lockdown period comes to an end on May 3.
