New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday was backed with her traditional ‘bahi khata’ (ledger) for the presentation of the Union Budget 2020, similar to what she had carried last year. Sitharaman, who was dressed in yellow silk saree, called on President Ram Nath Kovind. She was accompanied by Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur and other officials.
Last year too, the Finance Minister too had carried the budget documents in ‘bahi khata’, ditching the traditions of carrying budget documents in a ‘briefcase’. Sitharaman then had said that the Modi government is not a ‘suitcase carrying government’.

Sitharaman will present the Budget 2020-21 on Saturday at the Parliament. She will deliver her speech in the Parliament at 11.00 am. The duration of the budget speech usually ranges from 90 to 120 minutes. It is expected that the government will announce a slew of measures to revive the economy which is facing a slowdown.
For her second budget presentation, Sitharaman carried documents in a traditional 'Bahi-Khata' (ledger) wrapped in a red cloth, similar to what she carried last year.
She was dressed in a crisp yellow silk saree.
Last year too, Sitharaman had ditched the long-standing tradition of carrying budget documents in a leather briefcase and went swadeshi with a 'bahi-khata'.
Then Sitharaman had said that the Modi government is not a "suitcase-carrying government", in an apparent jibe at the past dispensations.
