New Delhi | Jagran Business Desk: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who is presenting the union budget 2020-21 in the Parliament on Saturday, annoucned that the government will expand the an Aushadhi Kendras in all districts of country to provide medicines at affordable rates, adding that anti-TB campaign to be launched to eliminate TB by 2025. She further said that the budget will provide an additional Rs 69,000 crore for the health sector. 

"There is a shortage of qualified medical doctors both general practitioners and specialists; it is proposed to attach a medical college to a district hospital in PPP mode; details of the scheme to be worked out soon," Sitharaman said.

* Government also proposed Rs 12,300 crore for the Swachh Bharat Mission.

The government in its last budget had allocated Rs 64,559 crore to the ministry of health and family welfare, which contributes to 2.32 per cent of the total budget and 0.34 per cent of the country’s GDP.

Of the allocated budget, half was reserved for National Health Mission (NHM) with about Rs 32,995 crore while Rs 27,039 crore was for Rural Health Mission and Urban Health Mission for Rs 950 crore.

The Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) or the Ayushman Bharat was also in government’s focus and it had allocated it Rs 6,400 crore. On the other hand, Indian Council of Medical Research got Rs 1,475 while Rs 160.35 crore was kept for infrastructure development.
