New Delhi | Jagran Lifestyle Desk: Losing weight is one thing that everyone wants to do. However, most of us are reluctant to extensive workout sessions. But there’s a way that you can lose your weight while sleeping.

During sleep, activities such as cell repair and growth increases and your brain filter information and reboots. During this time, your body also tends to burn some calories, in fact, more than you can imagine. However, this depends on some factors such as sleep hours, body temperature, weight and what you eat.

So here’s how you can burn your calories when you are asleep:

Sleep in dark:

One thing that you should always do while sleeping is to try to ‘sleep in darkness’. It allows your brain to relax. Human bodies produce melatonin, a ‘sleep’ hormone, that allows us to fall asleep and stay asleep. This ‘sleep’ hormone is mostly produced between 11 pm and 3 am.

Get proper hours of sleep:

A human body should sleep for at least six to eight hours. In the absence of sleep, your body gets tired and subsequently hungry which leads to an increase in weight. Apart from it, some studies have found that lack of sleep makes cells less sensitive to insulin which increases obesity.

Stay away from gadgets:

Many studies have found that the use of mobile phones and other electronic devices just before bedtime can hamper your sleep because these gadgets emit ‘blue light’ which disrupts the production of melatonin and slows down metabolism.

Proper room temperature:

According to some studies, people should sleep in proper room temperatures (around 19 degrees Celsius) as it helps your body burn seven per cent more calories.
