International Yoga Day 2020: Some easy-to-do Yoga asanas to help reduce obesity, respiratory problems
New Delhi | Jagran Lifestyle Desk: International Yoga Day 2020 is celebrated on 21st June every year since 2015. PM Narendra Modi chose the date in his UN address saying that the date is the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere, having special significance in many parts of the world. The event is celebrated with a view to raise awareness of the many benefits of practicing yoga.
As the world is suffering from the deadly coronavirus pandemic, the theme of this year's International Yoga Day is set as "Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family." Hence, the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy also known as AYUSH Ministry, is encouraging people to practice yoga at their homes with the entire family.
Here are some easy-to-do Yoga asanas which you can perform at home to fight against obesity or fat:
- Bhujang Asana
Bhujang asana or cobra pose helps in stretching and toning the muscles of arms, shoulders, buttocks, thighs, back, and abdomen. It is the best way to reduce belly fat. It gives a good stretch to your abdominal muscles and helps you attain a flat belly with regular practice.
- Paschimottan Asana
Paschimottan asana is also known as the forward seated bend. It is a beneficial yoga asana for fighting obesity. As it helps in reducing fat and toning your abdominal area, pelvic region, thighs, hips, and shoulders.
- Plank Pose (Kumbhakasana)
This posture stimulates the calorie-burning process. Plank pose is one of the most effective yoga postures that can help achieve a toned and flat belly. Carrying this posture for more than a minute will give effective results that engage the abdominal muscles.
To fight against respiratory diseases:
- Trikonasana / Triangle Pose
This helps to clear the passage of air to the lungs. The criss-cross of the body in Trikonasana helps to massage the internal organs and helps to get rid of toxins and results in proper functioning.
- Anulom- Vilom
This asanas is the easiest and the most beneficial one. Anulom-vilom pranayama has infinite benefits from treating heart conditions to body postures and many others.
To fight against depression/anxiety:
Mountain pose with arms overhead (Urdhva Hastasana):
Also known as Urdhva Hastasana in Tadasana. It is a good warm-up posture. This posture will uplift the spirit and provide a healthy mind if practice daily.
Paschimottanasana (a) to Halasana (b) (Seated Forward Bend to Plow Pose.
Brings relief from blue thoughts or anxiety. It provides energy to the whole body and makes us feel more alive.
Urdhva Dhanurasana (Upward-Facing Bow Pose)
Improves circulation, stimulates the nervous system and generates a feeling of well-being.
