New Delhi | Jagran Lifestyle Desk: The festival of Basant Panchami is being celebrated across the country to honour Maa Sarawati-- the goddess of knowledge, music, art, science and literature. Basant means spring and Panchami is the fifth day of the spring season. As per religious beliefs, worshipping the Goddess brings englightenment of knowledge, get us rid of lethargy, sluggishness and slumber. On this day, women wear traditional yellow saris while children take part in cultural programs and families share prasad. Some schools and colleges holds Puja on basanti Panchami. Clay idols of the Maa Saraswati with moon crescent, riding a swan or seated on a lotus are brought home. Flowers, fruits and sweets are placed near Puja Pandal. Customary khichdi (a mixture of rice and lentils) is the traditional prasad for Saraswati Puja.
