New Delhi | Jagran Lifestyle Desk: The Chaitra Navratri is being celebrated across the country will full energy and enthusiasm. The nine-day festival is dedicated to the several forms of goddess Durga. On the second day or dwitya, Maa Brahmacharini is worshipped. The goddess signifies love, loyalty, wisdom, and knowledge and she is a storehouse of wisdom and knowledge. The word Brahmacharini is derived from Brahma means penance and charini means behaviour.

The Goddess is depicted as Maa Durga who walks barefeet. She carried Japmala in her right hand and Kamandal in her left. The goddess performs deep meditation to get Lord Shiva as her husband. As per religious texts, she spends over a thousand years on a diet of flowers/ fruits and another hundred years on leafy vegetables while sleeping on the floor.

The favourite flower of Maa Brahmacharini is Jasmine. It is advised to offer her jasmine with sugar for longevity of family members.

Steps to worship Maa Brahmacharini:

Place Maa Brahmacharini idol or photograph in your puja room

Put some akshat, roli, laddo, milk, curd, sugar, honey, paan and supari and flowers on a thali

Take kalash filled with water and place mango leaves and coconut over it

Chant Maa Brahmacharini mantra:

Ya devi sarvabhuteṣu maa brahmachariṇi rupeṇa sansthita |
Namastasyai namastasyai namastasyai namo namah ||
Dadhana kara padmabhyama akṣamala kamaṇḍalu |
Devi prasidatu maa brahmachariṇyanuttama ||

Do Puja and aarti.

Distribute prasad with others.

Note: Devotees should not consume anything except fruits on this day.

Each Day of Durga Puja has its own colour. Orange which dignifies joy, happiness, sunshine, endurance, and strength is preferred on Day 2 of Chaitra Navratri.

Similarly, on the next day or Tritya, Maa Chandraghanta will be worshipped on Thursday (March 25). She rides on a tiger to destroy, has 10 arms with a moon on her forehead.

The powerful goddess is appeased by Kheer. Maa Chandraghanta is known to remove all physical pains.
