“BJP workers across the country will begin celebrating 'seva saptah' today. Our PM has dedicated his entire life to serve the nation and worked for the poor. So it is appropriate that we celebrate his birthday week as 'seva saptah',” said Shah while speaking to reporters.
The BJP leaders also met the children admitted at AIIMS and gifted them fruits as part of the campaign.
“BJP will observe 'seva saptah' across the country during which various welfare activities will be carried out,” said party general secretary Arun Singh earlier.
During this week-long drive, the party's leaders and workers will carry out various welfare activities, especially among the poor, BJP general secretary Arun Singh said at a press conference.
The party has also constituted a central committee to make the initiative a grand success. The committee consists of three members, including party leader Avinash Rai Khanna as convenor, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and national secretaries Sudha Yadav and Sunil Deodhar, news agency ANI reported.
The party leaders including MPs, MLAs will also run a campaign against the use of single-use plastic in different universities in line with the Prime Minister's call for launching a mass movement against single-use plastic.
Last year too, the party had celebrated Modi's birthday, which falls on September 17, as Seva Saptah.
