Vikas Dubey, accused of killing 8 policemen, gunned down while trying to escape after accident | How events unfolded
Lucknow | Jagran News Desk: Notorious gangster Vikas Dubey, who was wanted in the killing of eight police officials in Kanpur, was gunned down on the morning of July 10 by the authorities. The Uttar Pradesh Police Special Task Force (STF) said that Dubey allegedly tried to escape by snatching the pistol of injured policemen after their car overturned.
SP Kanpur West said that the police tried to make him surrender but Dubey refused. Shots were fired and he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, the SP noted.

Vikas Dubey was wanted in the killing of the eight police officials in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur. After the killing, Dubey managed to escape from the police.
Following the Kanpur encounter, the police launched a hunt for him and raised the bounty on him to Rs 5 lakh.
Later, the police killed Dubey’s close aides -- Bahua Dubey and Prabhat Mishra – in separate encounters in Etawah and Kanpur respectively on Thursday.
Dubey’s other close aide Shyamu Bajpai was also arrested by the police following an encounter while his other aide Amar Dubey was gunned down by Uttar Pradesh's Special Task Force in Hamirpur district.
The police finally arrested Dubey on Thursday morning in Ujjain. Dubey had come to Ujjain to offer prayers at Temple, where he was identified by a security guard at the shrine.
Dubey’s footage of getting arrested at the famous Mahakal temple also went viral on social media. In the video, the accused is seen being slammed against a police van and cuffed on the head. "Main Vikas Dubey hoon, Kanpur wala! (I am Vikas Dubey of Kanpur)," he had shouted while getting arrested.
On Friday, Dubey was being taken to Kanpur where the police’s vehicle met with an accident and he tried to escape from the spot in Bhauti area. The cops said that Dubey snatched a pistol of an injured police official tried to flee but was surrounded by the police team and he was injured in an exchange of fire.
“Vikas Dubey attempted to flee by snatching pistol of the injured policemen after a car overturned. Police tried to make him surrender, during which he fired at the policemen. He was injured in retaliatory firing by police. He was later rushed to the hospital,” news agency ANI quoted SP Kanpur West as saying.
