New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: A Cabinet Minister in Uttarakhand Government on Sunday tested positive for Coronavirus, reported news agency ANI. At least 22 people including his family members and staff have also tested positive, said State Chief Secretary Utpal Kumar Singh.

As per a report from News 18, Satpal Maharaj-- who holds the tourism portfolio-- tested positive a day after his wife contracted the virus. All the staff of the minister have placed under quarantine.

Her wife Amrita Rawat had tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday after complaining of fever for the last few days. "Her report has come and she has tested positive for coronavirus. She is being admitted to hospital as per the state protocol," District Magistrate Ashish Srivastava had told ANI.

She was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Rishikesh on Sunday and has been kept in isolation, hospital PRO, Harish Thapliyal, told PTI. 

Satpal Maharaj minister was immediately placed under quarantine. 

Earlier this week, the Dehradun administration has put his private residence under quarantine after some people from Delhi visited him amid lockdown.

At that time, the minister had said that the guests were staying in one portion of the house while he lived in another portion. 

On Friday, Maharaj had attended the state cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. Several minister and officials were also present in the meet.

As per the Union Health Ministry, at least 749 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, 102 have been cured from the pandemic, while five patients have succumbed to the infection.

Amid spurt in cases, the centre has extended lockdown till June 30 in all containment zones. Several states like West Bengal, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, among others has extended the ongoing lockdown for 15-30 days. Restrictions have been eased in "Unlock 1".
