New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: An Uttar Pradesh Police Constable, who accompanied the dreaded gangster Vikas Dubey in the vehicle while transporting him from Ujjain, tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday.

Ganesh Shankar Vidhyarthi Medical College principal Dr. R B Kamal in a statement to news agency PTI said, "The report came in late on Saturday. The cop has now been admitted to an isolation ward."

He also informed that four other police personnel who were also present in the vehicle have tested negative.

The UP Police constable who tested positive for the virus was injured in the encounter in which Vikas Dubey was gunned down. It is also revealed that contact-tracing of the infected police constable is underway.

The notorious Gangster Vikas Dubey was reportedly killed in an encounter on Friday morning by UP police near Kanpur in the Bhauti area while he was being transported to Kanpur from Ujjain. The history-sheeter was shot dead while he allegedly tried to escape from the spot following the overturning of the vehicle. Hours after the gangster was killed, Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) in a press release on Friday said that the vehicle in which they were travelling overturned after a "herd of cattle had come in front of it". The STF further said that Dubey took advantage of the accident and snatched a pistol from police personnel and tried to escape.

The press release also mentioned that the police tried to catch the notorious criminal alive but he continued to fire. He, however, got injured after the police "retaliated in self-defence", the STF noted.

The STF further said that they immediately took Vikas Dubey to the hospital for "first aid" but the doctors declared him dead after the examination.
