'They urinated in my mouth': Railway cops thrash journalist in UP's Shamli | Video
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: In a shocking incident, Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel thrashed a journalist who was covering a train derailment near Dhimanpura in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district in the early hours of Wednesday.
GRP personnel who were present on the spot, abused, kicked and beat up Amit Sharma, a stringer for TV channel News24. They also snatched his camera.
The journalist said the cops refused to listen to him and continued to thrash him.
“They were in plain clothes. One hit my camera and it fell down. When I picked it up, they hit and abused me. I was locked up, stripped and they urinated in my mouth,” Amit was quoted by ANI as saying.

Several journalists rushed to the police station on learning about the incident and put the video footage of cops beating up Amit on the social media. The journalists also contacted senior officials at the police headquarters.
Station House Officer Rakesh Kumar and GRP constable Sanjay Pawar have been suspended and a probe has been ordered into the incident.
“We have come across a video where a journalist has been beaten up & put up in a lock up. DGP UP OP Singh has ordered for immediate suspension of SHO GRP Shamli Rakesh Kumar & Const. Sanjay Pawar. Strict punishment shall be accorded to policemen misbehaving with citizens,” the UP Police tweeted on Tuesday.
