'They removed ventilator, I'm unable to breathe': Hyderabad man's video message to father before dying of COVID-19
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: A man suffering from COVID-19 sent a selfie video to his father from the hospital bed minutes before he succumbed to the disease, saying that he was not able to breathe as the doctors had removed the ventilator.
The incident reportedly took place on Friday and video shot by the man went viral on Sunday.
“They have removed ventilator and have not been responding to my plea for the last three hours to provide oxygen support. My heart has stopped and only lungs are working, but I am unable to breathe, daddy. Bye daddy. Bye all, bye daddy,” Hindustan Times quoted the man as saying in the video, which has left everyone in shock.
The man’s father has alleged that after at least 10 private hospitals refused admission, his son was finally admitted to Hyderabad Government Chest Hospital on Wednesday.
As per reports, the video was shot barely an hour before the man was declared dead by the hospital authorities.
“My son asked for help, but no one helped him. I saw the video only after I returned home after the last rites, and he said 'bye daddy'. What happened to my son should not happen to anyone else. Why was my son denied oxygen? Did anyone else need it urgently and so they took it away from him? When I hear that video of my son, my heart breaks,” the father was quoted by NDTV as saying.
However, the hospital has denied the allegation that the ventilator was removed. “The ventilator support was very much there, but the patient was in such a critical stage that he could not feel the oxygen supply,” Chest hospital superintendent Mahboob Khan was quoted as saying.
Khan said that the man died to collapse of heart, adding that this was a new trend seen in patients aged 25-40 years. He said that the doctors tried their best but the patient was already critical at the time of admission.
