Regular train services unlikely to resume till mid-August, Railways offers refunds for tickets booked up to April 14
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: The Indian Railways has decided to refund the full booking amount of all tickets booked up to April 14 for all time-tabled trains, indicating that regular passenger train services are unlikely to resume at least till mid-August, according to a Times of India report.
After Indian Railways resumed passenger train services in the country in a "phased" manner with 15 pairs of trains from 12 May, 2020, the national transporter is now running another 200 special trains since June 1.
More trains, if run to meet the demands, are also likely to be branded as “special” ones.
On Monday, the Railway Ministry issued a circular to all zones informing them about the decision to cancel all tickets booked on or before April 14 and to give full refund of tickets to the passengers.
The Railways had allowed booking of tickets through online IRCTC website or app and had increased the advance reservation period from 30 days to 120 days.
Unlock 2.0: More special trains and domestic flights likely from next month, schools and colleges may remain closed
As per the rules, passengers don’t need to cancel tickets, if the Railways cancels trains and the process of full refund initiates automatically.
The advance reservation system for regular trains was suspended from April 15, while the regular passenger train services were cancelled from march 25.
The special trains currently running on key routes include the popular ones like Durontos, Sampark Krantis, Jan Shatabdis and Poorva Express and more.
The national transporter had stopped its passenger services from March 22. From May 1, it had started Shramik Special trains for migrant labourers. From May 12, 15 pairs of special AC trains had started operations.
According to the standard operation procedure (SOP) issued by the Centre, all the passengers need to wear a face mask. It is also mandatory for the passengers to download the Aarogya Setu app.
No unreserved (UTS) tickets are issued and no tickets are issued on board to any passenger during the journey. No tatkal and premium tatkal booking are permitted either.
