All regular train services cancelled till August 12, passengers to get full refund for tickets booked from July 1
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: The Indian Railways on Thursday cancelled all time-tabled passenger train services till August 12 amid the continuous spike in coronavirus cases and deaths across the country.
"It has been decided that regular time-tabled passenger services including Mail/Express, passenger and suburban services stand cancelled up to 12.08.2020," the Railway Board said in a statement.
The Railways also said that the tickets booked for these trains for the journey date from July 1 to August 12 also stand cancelled. "All tickets booked for the regular time-tabled trains for journey date from 01.07.20 to 12.08.20 also stand cancelled. Full refund will be generated," the Railway Board order stated.
The special trains and Shramik specials, however, will continue operations.
After Indian Railways resumed passenger train services in the country in a "phased" manner with 15 pairs of trains from 12 May, 2020, the national transporter is now running another 200 special trains since June 1.
A Times of India report had recently reported that Railways had decided to refund the full booking amount of all tickets booked up to April 14 for all time-tabled trains, indicating that regular passenger train services were unlikely to resume at least till mid-August.
Earlier, the Railways had announced suspension of regular passenger operations, including mail, express, passenger, and suburban services till June 30.
The Railways had allowed booking of tickets through online IRCTC website or app and had increased the advance reservation period from 30 days to 120 days.
As per the rules, passengers don’t need to cancel tickets, if the Railways cancels trains and the process of full refund initiates automatically.
The advance reservation system for regular trains was suspended from April 15, while the regular passenger train services were cancelled from march 25.
According to the standard operation procedure (SOP) issued by the Centre, all the passengers need to wear a face mask. It is also mandatory for the passengers to download the Aarogya Setu app.
No unreserved (UTS) tickets are issued and no tickets are issued on board to any passenger during the journey. No tatkal and premium tatkal booking are permitted either.
