New single-day spike of 9,887 cases and 294 deaths; India now 6th nation worst-hit from COVID-19 with 2.36 lakh infections
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: With 9,887 new COVID-19 infections recorded in the country in last 24 hours, the tally of total coronavirus case reached 2,36,657 in India. The spike of 9,887 cases is the highest ever spike recorded in span of 24 hours. The death toll also reached 6,642 after record 294 fatalities were recorded from across the country in a day's time.
Of the total 2,36,657 cases, 115942 were active cases, while 114072 people have been cured and discharged from the hospitals, according to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday.
With the sharp rise in cases, India is now the sixth worst-hit country of the world leaving behind Italy which has 2,34,531 cases. India is now behind USA, Russia, Brazil, UK, and Spain in the list of worst-hit countries from the coronavirus.
Among the Indian states, Maharashtra being the worst-hit state crossed the 80,000-mark on Saturday, with death toll reaching 2,849 in the state so far. While, the southern state of Tamil Nadu remains to be the second worst-hit Indian state with 28,694 cases and 232 deaths.
The national capital Delhi, with 26,334 cases is the third worst-hit state. Delhi has recoeded more than 3,500 cases in the last three days. The death toll the in the national capital has also reached 708. Meanwhile, Gujarat remains to be the number four with 19,094 cases and 1,190 deaths.
