Record 27,114 cases, 519 fatalities take India's COVID-19 tally past 8 lakh-mark, last 1 lakh cases in 3 days; death toll at 22,123
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: In another record spike of cases, India registered 27,114 new infections during the last 24 hours taking the total toll of coronavirus past 8 lakh-mark. With the latest addition of cases, India's COVID-19 tally reached 8,20,916.
The death also crossed the 22,000-mark and reached 22,123 after record 519 deaths were reported in the country during the last 24 hours. Of the total 8,20,916 cases, 2,83,407 are active cases, while 5,15,386 people have been cured and discharged from the hospitals across the country.
India crossed the grim milestone of 8 lakh cases in just 3 days after reaching the 7 lakh-mark. Since July 1, India has recorded over 2.35 lakh cases of coronavirus till date.
Among the Indian states, Maharashtra remains to be the worst-hit state. Maharashtra reported its highest single-day spike of 7,862 new cases on Friday, which pushed the overall tally of patients in the state to 2,38,461. With 226 more patients succumbing to the infection, the death toll in the state reached 9,893.
Tamil Nadu, being the second worst-hit state recorded 3,680 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of those affected by the contagion in the state to 1,30,261. With 64 fatalities reported, the death toll has gone up to 1,829. There was a significant jump in recoveries today which surpassed the number of those infected as 4,163 people got discharged from various health care facilities.
Meanwhile, Delhi recorded 2,089 novel coronavirus cases during the last 24 hours, taking the tally in the city to over 1.09 lakh, while the death toll from the disease mounted to 3,300 with 42 fatalities in the last 24 hours. An order has also been issued to set up the rapid antigen testing camps to ensure that the special surveillance groups are tested on priority for their COVID-19 infection status.
