Record 18,552 new infections in last 24 hrs take India’s COVID-19 tally past 5 lakh-mark, last 1 lakh cases in just 6 days; 15,685 dead so far
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: India recorded another record spike of 18,552 new infections during the last 24 hours taking India’s COVID-19 tally crossed the grim milestone of 5 lakh-mark and reached 5,08,953. The death also climbed up to 15,685 after 384 new fatalities were reported in the same period of time.
Of the total 5,08,953 cases, 1,97,387 are active cases while 2,95,881 people have been cured of the deadly infection and discharged from the hospital.
With this India remains to be the fourth worst-hit country from coronavirus. Only the USA, Brazil and Russia are ahead of India in terms of total coronavirus cases. India crossed the 4 lakh mark on June 20 and after just 6 days, the country has crossed the 5-lakh mark.
Among the Indian states, Maharashtra remains to be the worst-hit state with over 1.52 lakh COVID-19 cases over 7,100 deaths. Of the total, 65,844 are active cases in the state while 79,815 people have been cured of the dreadful infection.
The national capital Delhi remains to be the worst-hit city and second worst-hit state with 77,240 positive cases of COVID-19. The death toll in Delhi also climbed up to 2,492. Meanwhile, 47,091 have been cured in the state-city while remaining 27,657 are active cases.
The southern state of Tamil Nadu with 74,622 cases is the third worst-hit state. The death toll in Tamil Nadu also reached 957. Of the total, 32,308 are active cases, while 41,357 people have been cured and discharged from the hospitals.
