Record 15,968 cases and 465 fatalities take India’s COVID-19 tally past 4.5 lakh-mark; 14,476 dead so far
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: With 15,968 new infections recorded in last 24 hours, Indian COVID-19 tally crossed the 4.5 lakh-mark and reached 4,56,183. The death toll also climbed up to 14,476 after record 465 deaths were reported during the same period of time, according to the Union Health Ministry data on Wednesday.
Of the total 4,56,183 cases, 1,83,022 are active cases, while 2,58,685 people have been cured of the diseases and were discharged from the hospitals. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) also said that so far 73,52,911 samples have been tested in the country. Over 2.15 lakh samples were tested during the last 24 hours.
Among the Indian states, Maharashtra with over 1.39 lakh cases remains to be the worst-hit state. The death toll in Maharashtra also reached 6,531 after 248 fatalities were reported in the state during the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Delhi, which became the second worst-hit state yesterday, has 66,602 cases of coronavirus, while the death toll in the national capital also reached 2,301 after 68 new fatalities. According to the data shared by the state health ministry, the national capital reported 3,947 new cases on Tuesday - its highest single-day toll so far.
Tamil Nadu, with 64,603 cases of coronavirus remains to be the third worst-hit state. The death toll in the southern state also reached 833 till Wednesday morning.
