New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: The security forces on Wednesday neutralised three Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists in an encounter in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. The three slain terrorists included an IED expert, who is believed to be the mastermind of planting the IED-laden car that was recently detected in Pulwama.

“Three terrorists have been neutralised in the encounter that broke out between terrorists & security forces in Kangan area of Pulwama, earlier today. Arms and ammunition recovered”, J&K Police said.

The IED expert who was killed in the encounter was identified as Abdul Rehman alias Fauji Bhai. According to a senior police official, Fauji Bhai belongs to Multan in Pakistan and was active in the south Kashmir since 2017. According to some media reports, the Jaish terrorist has been a part of the planning team of several attacks and attempted car bomb blasts earlier also. However, identification of the other two terrorists killed in the encounter is still on.

“Out of the 3 terrorists of Jaish-e-Mohammed which were neutralised today, one has been identified as Abdul Rehman alias Fauji Bhai, an IED expert. He belongs to Multan, Pakistan & was active in South Kashmir since 2017. Other 2 are being identified”, Vijay Kumar, IGP Kashmirsaid, as reported by news agency ANI.

Defense spokesperson Col Rajesh Kalia as quoted news agency PTI said, that the security forces launched a cordon and search operation soon after getting a tip about the presence of the militants in the area. Later, announcements were made for them to surrender, but the militants fired upon the security forces. The forces retaliated, ensuing a gunfight in which three militants were killed, the spokesman said.

“A joint operation was launched in the early hours today on specific intelligence input. A cordon was laid and contact established in the morning. Announcements were made for the terrorists to surrender, but they opened fire on security forces. A firefight ensued. Three terrorists of JeM killed, including one IED expert,” said an official statement by the Army.
