Prime Minister Narendra Modi's followers on Twitter cross 60 million-mark
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is known for his popularity on social media and quick replies to his followers. The Prime Minister is quite active on social and media and time and again, he has reached out to masses through social media.
On Sunday, PM Modi achieved another feat after his followers on the micro-blogging website Twitter crossed the 60 million mark. With this, PM Modi also became the most followed Indian on Twitter.
At the world level, PM Modi remains the third most followed leader. Former United States (US) President Barack Obama leads the list with 120.7 million followers while current US President Donald Trump holds the second position with more than 83 followers on Twitter.
The Indian Prime Minister is also the 15th most followed person on the micro-blogging website. Currently, PM Modi follows more than 2,300 people on Twitter.
PM Modi had started using Twitter in 2009 when he was serving as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. However, his popularity extensively increased after he became the Prime Minister of the country in 2014.
"Since his (Modi) election win in May earlier this year, the Prime Minister's Twitter account (@narendramodi) has doubled in followers adding more than 4 million followers," the Twitter had said in a statement earlier.
"His election victory Tweet remains the most retweeted Tweet of all time from India with 70,586 tweets," added.
In September last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had 50 million followers on Twitter. Now within a span of ten months, his followers have increased by 10 million on Twitter.
PM Modi has been quite active on Twitter. He often interacts with his followers via Twitter to solve their problems, answering their queries while interacting with celebrities and world leaders. On quite a few occasions, PM Modi has also announced about his policies and decisions on Twitter.
