New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday held a detailed meeting with senior ministers and officials to review the ongoing situation due to the coronavirus pandemic in the country. 

During the meet, Prme Minister Narendra Modi took stock of India's response to the COVID-19 pandemic and reviewed the national level status of the outbreak of the virus. PM Modi also also reviewed the preparation of the authorities in context with the pandemic. 

Home Minister Amit Shah, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and the principal secretary to PM Modi, among others, attended the meeting.

The PM also discussed augmentation of testing as well as increasing the number of beds and services specially in the large cities facing challenges to effectively handle the peak surge of daily cases.

During the meet it was also observed that 5 states account for two-thirds of the total cases in the country with an overwhelming proportion of the COVID cases in some big cities, like Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad.

The Prime Minister also took cognisance of the recommendations by the Empowered Group of Medical Emergency Management Plan on city and district wise requirements including hospitals, beds, isolation beds among others which will be necessarily required by the affected states and districts across the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also directed the Union Health Ministry officials to plan a emergency road map for handling of the coronavirus pandemic in consultation with the states and UTs of the country.  

The present and emerging scenario in the national capital was also discussed in the meeting and projections for the next two months were deliberated. 

PM Modi, in the meeting, also suggested that Home Minister Amit Shah and Health Minister Harsh Vardhan  should convene an emergency meeting with Delhi Lieutinent Governor Anil Baijal, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in presence of all senior officials of the Central and Delhi government and municipal corporation leaders in Delhi to plan a coordinated and comprehensive plan to effectively handle the ever rising cases in the national capital.
